Rainbow Dash is a Pegasus pony.
Pegasus ponies, or Pegasi, are one of the three main species of ponies found in Equestria. Coming from the city of Cloudsdale, they are characterized by their unique wings, their ability to fly and manipulate clouds. They can walk on clouds and manipulate weather. They usually possess great flying speed, however they're not always as fast on hoof compared to Earth ponies. They can create rainbows and snowflakes in special factories. Pegasus ponies can mostly be seen in Ponyville and with the exception of the Royal Guards, almost non-existent in Canterlot.
