Backstory

Early Life

Wishgriff and Bottlegriff were born on Mount Aris, 9 months after the Hippogriffs returned to Mount Aris to a working class family with royal ancestry. Their royal ancestry comes from the fact that Wishgriff and Bottlegriff's fifth great grandmother was the sister of Queen Novo's fourth great grandmother, which makes them fifth cousins once removed of Princess Skystar, Silverstream, and Terramar, and thus, in the line of succession to the Hippogriffian throne (though because of how distantly related they are, their succeeding to the throne is incredibly unlikely and it would only happen in the event of an incredible tragedy in the Hippogriff royal family). Wishgriff was born first and was given her name by their mother. Bottlegriff was born 30 minutes after Wishgriff was born and was given his name by their father. Wishgriff's name was given to her because her mother believed her to be the fulfillment of a wish that she made. This is because one night when Wishgriff and Botlegriff's mother was early in her pregnancy with the babies who would become Wishgriff and Bottlegriff, a comet flew by Equestria and was visible from the Kingdom of Hippogriffia. Wishgriff and Bottlegriff's mother wished upon the comet that her future children will survive to adulthood that night because she suffered two miscarriages and two stillbirths during her first four attempts to have children long before Wishgriff and Bottlegriff were born. Thus, when Wishgriff was born, she believed her birth to be the fulfillment of her wish that night. Bottlegriff's name on the other hand was given to him by his father. This is because Bottlegriff's green color reminded his father of the green bottles he drank his favorite brand of iced tea from. Wishgriff and Bottlegriff initially lived and studied in the Kingdom of Hippogriffia for most of their early years. When they were in their teens, they were enrolled in the School of Friendship where they study to this day. In school days, they live and stay in dorms in the School of Friendship. However, Hippogriffia is still their permanent home and they spend weekends, holidays, and breaks there.

Wishgriff's genification.

Wishgriff's attire is due to the fact that she's actually a genie. She became one during an incident while on vacation in Saddle Arabia. Wishgriff has always held a certain fascination with unicorn and alicorn magic. Their ability to levitate objects and cast spells has always fascinated her ever since she was a child. When she and her family decided to go to Saddle Arabia for vacation, she was excited as she always heard of the story of the genies from her childhood.  

During the afternoon of the first day of the vacation, Wishgriff wandered away from her family for a while and met a stallion.  That stallion asked Wishgriff if she would like to have magic powers and gave her a magic bottle.  Wishgriff agreed because she always wanted to have some sort of magic powers and the stallion took Wishgriff to his house where he opened the bottle and Wishgriff was sucked in.  

The next morning, Bottlegriff came to the stallion’s house and opened Wishgriff’s bottle first not knowing she was in there.  Since Bottlegriff released Wishgriff first, Bottlegriff became Wishgriff’s master.  This put the two of them in a precarious position (since now, Bottlegriff had some sort of responsibility and authority over her sister when initially, it was her sister who had more responsibilities and authority over him).  Wishgriff decided that she will remain a genie forever since she still preferred keeping her new found magic, even if it came at a cost (she also desired to make other creatures satisfied by granting their wishes).  Bottlegriff then gave Wishgriff the ability to grant wishes herself. Despite Wishgriff becoming a genie, life hasn’t changed much since after Wishgriff became a genie; both she and Bottlegriff still attend school like normal hippogriffs and live their lives normally, albeit with a little more magic.  However, Bottlegriff sleeps alone in both their dorm in the School of Friendship and in their home at Mount Aris while Wishgriff sleeps in her bottle with Bottlegriff guarding it.

Personalities

Wishgriff

Wishgriff tends to have a very bubbly and cheerful personality. She is very excitable and curious and interested in everything (much like Silverstream!). Wishgriff is very intelligent in the fields of math, science, and history. She is also very multilingual, being able to speak and understand many languages. Her body is very flexible and she is a very good at dancing (she specializes in classical and contemporary ballet, contemporary dance, and oriental dances). She can even sing well; her vocal range is a soprano. She sometimes acts as well and also shares some interest in the theatre. She also has very good artistic ability as well and can do both traditional and digital art. Her main flaw is that she can be too fidgety, hyperactive, and occasionally inconsiderate at times as she suffers from ADHD and autism.

Wishgriff does not like everything, though. She dislikes it when other creatures bully her or discriminate against her, especially when it involves inappropriate stuff. For example, she was mocked for having ADHD and autism during her first days in the School of Friendship. She experienced mockery again during her first school day after her genification. Wishgriff's classmates bullied her after she said that she was a genie. Both events made her really angry and she almost lost her temper. Thankfully, in both cases, she knew how to control her temper and reported it to the school authorities, who subsequently dealt with it. Her friends now accept her for her condition and her being a genie. She also does not like it when other creatures wish for things that violate Saddle Arabian genie laws.

Bottlegriff

Bottlegriff's personality has some differences from that her elder sister. For one, he tends to be more serious and reserved than her sister (I would compare his personality to Terramar's). Just like Wishgriff, he is very intelligent in the fields of math, science, and history. He is very multilingual and like his sister, can understand and speak multiple languages. He also has a flexible body, and also is good in dancing (specializing in the same dances that her elder, fraternal, twin sister specializes in). He also is very strong; he learned to lift his sister very early in his childhood. Just like Wishgriff, Bottlegriff's singing voice is also good (although it tends to be in the tenor range unlike Wishgriff's higher, soprano voice). Just like his elder, fraternal, twin sister, he also acts sometimes and expresses interest in the theatre. He also shares his elder, fraternal, twin sister's artistic abilities.

Wishing Rules

Although being a genie, Wishgriff can theoretically do anything, she also has certain rules and constraints on what wishes she can grant. Although Wishgriff in principle can grant wishes to kill and resurrect, or fall in love or stir hatred among creatures, she does not do so because they are immoral and unethical and forbidden by Saddle Arabian genie laws. She can refuse to grant wishes and modify them as she likes, however, most of the time, she is generous enough to do others a small favor. She also cannot alter cutie marks and any food conjured is not as good as naturally-grown food.

Purpose of Wishgriff's genie attire

Wishgriff's genie attire may look like decoration, but they actually have a purpose. Her golden wingtips allow her to perform the intense wishing magic of genies. Her headband with a pink gem in the middle serves as a memory bank for all of the wishes granted and/or abilities she has. This allows her to grant a past wish and perform any of her abilities whenever she wants or needs to. It should be also noted that for the exception of shapeshifting into inanimate objects (Even in this case, her wings must show up somewhere) or when she transforms into smoke form, her genie attire is unable to disappear. It’s also speculated that her leg braces and transparent wear are her magic anchor. When she's in her genie-tailed for the magic came from her bottle, but when Bottlegriff wished for Wishgriff to get her legs back, it must have transferred to her legs.

Trivia

• Both characters are based on the Tumblr Blog Ain't Never Had Friends like Us by Parcly-Taxel and NorthernVerve. The blog is about the Mane 6 becoming genies.
• In her original design, Wishgriff's hairline only extended until the back of her head and her hair was tied up at the back of her head. Her ponytail also was on the left side.
• This was later amended with her hairline extending to the back of her neck and her hair being tied on her right side to better reflect the hair of the canon Hippogriffs in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Her ponytail was also changed to being on her right side rather than her left side.
• Wishgriff's leggings and tail brace were originally pink to match her mane and tail. However, this created a problem because when a pink filter is placed over a blue base, the color of Wishgriff's rear legs seemed unnatural. This was later altered when Wishgriff was redesigned. Wishgriff's leggings were changed from pink to blue because the color appeared more natural and fitted more with Wishgriff's blue-colored coat.
• When Wishgriff is a seapony, a weight belt is placed around her bottle. It does not magically appear. It is attached by Bottlegriff every time Wishgriff needs to go underwater (because an empty glass bottle of that shape would obviously float rather than sink). Fortunately, Wishgriff rarely visit Seaquestria anyway. They only do so on certain occasions to visit relatives who chose to stay in Seaquestria after the Storm King was defeated.
• Wishgriff's bottle consists of two layers (one in front and behind the genie mist). They were originally at 10% opacity when full and a single layer at 20% opacity when empty (the stopper originally being at 20% opacity). It was originally asymmetrical. In the redesign, this was altered to be more symmetrical and the opacity was increased to two paths at 50% opacity when bottle is full and one path at 75% opacity when empty. The color and design of her weight belt was also changed to be more visible against the increased opacity of the bottle. Also, Wishgriff's eyes on her bottle whenever she's inside it were removed because having a pair of disembodied eyes on a bottle filled with a mysterious smoke looks creepy.
• in Wishgriff's Seapony form, the outline color and fin rays of her wing fins were originally darker than that fill color. In the most recent edit, this was altered to to match the hippogriffs and sea ponies in the show with the fill color being darker than the outline color.
